Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how Spndle ("we," "our," or "us") handles information in connection with your use of the Spndle mobile application (the "App"). By using the App, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

1. Information We Collect

Spndle is designed to collect as little information as possible. Specifically:

Information stored only on your device

• Expense records — payee, date, amount, category, notes, and any associated images you add
• Mileage trips — computed distance, date, and any notes you add
• Business names and settings
• App settings — including your Anthropic API key (if provided), stored in iOS secure local storage

None of this information is transmitted to Spndle or any server controlled by us.

Information we do not collect

• Your name, email address, or any other identifying information
• Your precise or approximate location (beyond what is needed to compute trip distance in real time — see below)
• Your financial account numbers or banking information
• Usage analytics or behavioral data
• Crash logs or diagnostic data beyond what Apple collects as part of the iOS operating system

2. Location Data and Mileage Tracking

Spndle requests access to your device's location solely to enable the mileage tracking feature. When you start a trip:

• GPS coordinates are read by the App in real time to compute the distance you've traveled.
• Raw GPS coordinates are not stored on your device or anywhere else. Only the computed distance (in miles) is saved.
• Location data is never transmitted to Spndle or any third party.

Spndle requests "Always Allow" location permission so that trip tracking can continue while your phone screen is off or the app is in the background. This permission is used exclusively for distance computation during an active trip. The App does not monitor your location when no trip is in progress.

You may revoke location permission at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Spndle. Revoking this permission disables GPS trip tracking; you can still log trips manually.

3. AI Receipt Scanning (Optional)

If you enable Claude AI receipt scanning in Settings and provide an Anthropic API key:

• Images of receipts you choose to scan are sent directly from your device to Anthropic's API using your own API key.
• This data transmission occurs between your device and Anthropic — Spndle's servers are not involved.
• Spndle does not receive, store, or have access to your receipt images or the AI responses.
• Anthropic's handling of this data is governed by Anthropic's Privacy Policy.
• Your Anthropic API key is stored locally on your device in iOS secure storage and is only used to authenticate requests to Anthropic's API.

AI scanning is entirely optional. If you do not enable it, all receipt processing is done on-device using Apple's ML Kit framework and no images are transmitted anywhere.

4. Data Backup

Because Spndle stores data locally on your device, your expense data is included in standard iOS backups (iCloud Backup or iTunes/Finder backup) if you have those enabled. This is controlled entirely by your iOS backup settings and Apple's policies. Spndle does not control or access these backups.

5. Children's Privacy

Spndle is designed for business use by adults. We do not knowingly collect any information from children under 13. If you believe a child has used the App in a way that has resulted in data collection, please contact us and we will take appropriate action.

6. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Your continued use of the App after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
